India is a country of festivals. Among those festivals, one is the Raksha Bandhan which is celebrated all over India with great enthusiasm and joy.
Since ancient times this festival of thread is being celebrated in India. The term "Raksha Bandhan" is derived from two words;"Raksha", which means "to protect" and "Bandhan" which means"a relationship". Hence in other words this festival simply means the festival of a relationship between the brothers and the sisters in which the brothers take pledge to protect their sisters throughout their life.
In this festival sisters tie thread onto the hands of their brother in order to protect them from any evil spirits. In return the brothers take pledge to protect their sisters throughout their life.
Raksha Bandhan is also known as "Rakhi". Sisters wait for this festival eagerly to tie a thread onto the hands of their dear brothers and in return the sisters receive a gift from their loving brothers.
The brothers can choose from a variety of gifts to give to their sisters in return for that special thread which is tied onto their hands on this day. Chocolates are the most popular gift which the brothers normally give to their sisters but they can be teddies, flowers, jewelery, clothing, bracelet, make up box, rings etc depending on the giver's preferences.
In today's internet age, brothers and sisters living abroad can send rakhi and other gifts to each other without any difficulties with the help of online rakhi gift shops. Therefore, celebrate this festival of joy with your family and make this occasion a memorable one.
